Hi there,

I got my wonderful Noritake 311 display from Coorz (thanks again man) and am having some problems getting it to work. I understand he's on holiday at the moment, so i thought i'd post here to see if you guys can help.

I'm using XP Service pack 2, and am trying to get said vfd to work with lcdinfo, but i'm having some problems. do i need to change any settings in the BIOS for the parallel port? should it be ECC, bi-directional, or what? do i need to change any DMA settings?

all i've been able to do so far is run the 311_test program, which works fine, and sometimes when playing around with lcdinfo have been able to get it to say "good bye!". i can't seem to be able to do much else. using lcdsmartie sometimes makes the first row of the vfd flash with random garbage, or the bottom left 'pixel' flash constantly.

has anybody got a solution to my most annoying problem?

thanks in advance,
madhatter

I would suspect your screen configs are not correct.

Check your log.txt in your lcdinfo directory. You should see if the VFD driver is loaded correctly, and tell what is available.

Make a /screens directory

in the lcdinfo/screens directory make the following:

1. a screens.xml file with:

<screens>
<screenfile>sysinfo.xml</screenfile>
</screens>
<screenfile>wmp.xml</screenfile>
<screenfile>Camel.xml</screenfile>

2. a sysinfo.xml file with following:

<screen>

<name>sysinfo</name>

<action>
<id>Core.NextScreen</id>
<parameter>System</parameter>
<delay>5000</delay>
</action>

<item type="text" x="2" y="0">
<textpos>left</textpos>
<fieldsize>9</fieldsize>
<textdata>Download:</textdata>
<refresh>500</refresh>
</item>

<item type="plugintext" x="11" y="0">
<textpos>right</textpos>
<fieldsize>2</fieldsize>
<varid>NetStats.DownloadSpeed1</varid>
<refresh>100</refresh>
</item>
</screen>

This should get you started.
If the sysinfo plugin is not awailable, you sould atleast se "Download:" in the upper left corner.

Precisely. The fact you get the 'good bye' on LCDinfo exit means your VFD is working just fine, no need to change any hardware settings. You just need some screens made for the 311.
I'll be back 4th of December, hope you got it working by then, if not then let me know.

Hi there!

I'm having the same troubles that madhatter2k is having. I got a Noritake GU128X32-311 and I can't get it to do anything except "good bye!" when I shut down LCDinfo. The program also crashes on just about anything I try to make it do, including when shutting down, I get errors.

I'm a hardware guy, not a software weenie, yet...so, for me all these pages of suggestions and fixes are a massive jumble of confusing info. Is there anyplace a real "user manual" for this program has been posted? If I had a manual, I could probably figure all this out!

I'm running win2k at the moment, any help or suggestions? Pretty please? I really want to make this display work and get a good understanding of LCDinfo, but so far I just can't see where to start.

Once fixed and understood, I might even contribute some time to writing documentation, something I do at my day job. At least I could for the Noritake display.

But at the moment I'm dead in the water.

(blub blub blub)

Ok, I modified my XML files with the same above suggestions from Torro, just to see what would happen.

Now LCDinfo at least starts and stops ok without crashing. I get "Download: 0" in the display now, but nothing else.

I was hoping to get the winamp plug in working properly before doing much else. At least I can see some changes here, but I still have no real idea of what I'm doing, and still in need of a little hand holding.

Thanks!
