Hi!

I finaly got my ks0108 128x64 lcd working yesterday....

the problem is that after awhile(some sek to minutes) the display goes blank... all ihave come up to resolve this is to restart lcdinfo or running the ks0108 test prog.. (start driver and then initialize) then it works agian... until it goes blank again.. =(

i have tried some other lcd progs.. but the same thing happens...

can in be that the lcd driver/dll gets unloaded from the memory ?

i have solderd it using this shematic :
http://www.fractronics.com/koppling_ks0108_pull.gif
i use win xp and have port95 installed, lcd running on port 0x378
and works perfectly untill it goes blank...

can someone please help me...

Hello,

I have the same controller crystalfontz (ks0108) screen than you and I'haven't any trouble with.
I'didn't use the same shematic than you I used this one

But I believe that if you have got something on the LCD screen your shematic must be ok !
Did you have a look in your bios, have tried many different configuratons ?
like the ecp/epp.

Hope it helps :?

I have also experienced similar behaviour with some displays in past. I noticed that for example switching on my table lamp would blank the display. I think it's because of interference. Also do you have clean power source for the display ? You could try adding some filter capacitors to the power lines.
Is there anything near that might cause interference ?

I had the same problem, and I found it only happened while running the winamp plug-in, any other time was fine. I get all me power from the pc atx psu, I only need +5v and -12v.

The reason it happens with the winamp screen could be that if the spectrum analyzer is used the display is constantly updated. And maybe the data gets somehow corrupted and the display goes crazy. Bad timing is also possible.

but what can i do to prevent it then?

Interference?... hmm.. the display is between to monitors... 20cm distance.... my rediosender to my mouse and keyboard is also close to it... i use 5v molex contakt from my pc for power to the lcd...

can it bee that my power cord is too long?
can i take the power from an usb cable instead?

or can it be that i havent build a box for it yet..?

what do you mean by filter capacitors?..
.
and did the displays you had probs with, started working later after making these modds for the power line?

filter capasitors are just capacitors that take any buzz or hum off the line, to make the dc 'purer'. electrolytics that are polarised, so you shouldnt;t connect them wrong.
Cheers for the possible winamp solution too, I just cured it by switching to WMP which is fine. Is there an MSN plugin does anyone know? Ta.

I think it was maybe about year and half ago when I had this problem with a Displaytech KS0108 display. If I remember correctly I discovered then that switching my table lamp on always blanked the display but it would also blank by itself every now and then. I don't think I did anything special to fix it at the time as I wasn't using that display all the time. But I know that after moving to another house I never had the problem with that display. Sounds like a good solution ? ;)

But you could try moving the display to some other place to see if it helps at all.
If you have a long power cable it's of course possible that it acts as antenna and collects interference. Who knows...

Depending how much your display takes current you might be able to power it from usb. The display itself won't need much currect but the backlight might. Max for usb is 500mA.
