Post subject:  LOOK!!! Toshiba T7932C Driver ????? Free LCD!!!!

Hiya.

Anyone who knows Drivers well enough, know if the T7932C is compatable with any other drivers we currently have written for LCDinfo? Or anyone willing to have a go at writing a driver for it?

Datasheet: http://www.hantronix.com/down/e007248.pdf

OK, OK... Some insentive... There is a free 150x32 pixel LCD on offer for whoever either writes a driver for it, or can tell me which driver and wiring scheme to use to get it going. I'll have to have a working LCD before I'll send out your reward, mean aren't I?

Ah didn't see this topic before.

T7932C is new to me and I don't think it is supported in any driver yet. But after a quick look in the datasheet I believe there shouldn't be too much problems attaching it to LPT port.

I could try making a driver for it as it's again a controller that I haven't yet worked with. ;)

But to try this I would need to have a real physical device here as without it the developing and debugging is much harder and more time is spent. With the real hardware to test and if there are no big problems it would probably take few hours to make the driver.

Have some datasheet for the display itself ?

Of course. :)

Well... Concidering the reputation you have Henri, and all of the other Drivers and plugins you have written... I would be happy to count the driver as almost written, and send you your prize. Email me the address to post it to.

Now for the stern look. ;) I hope it is as easy as you say. :)

Well it's safe to say LCDinfo is already the one with the most supported controllers, there ain't much more out there 8)

Will do.

Well you never know how difficult it will be making the driver until it is working but if there is datasheet available for the controller and lcd then it should be relatively simple as long as the interface is suitable for LPT port. And in this case I can already see from the T7932C datasheet that it should be withing the capabilities of LPT port. But if you have the lcd datasheet I would like to check that there isn't anything I haven't thought of there and pinout and voltages needed.
If datasheet for the lcd module itself isn't available it should still be possible to make it work but of course then some more time has to be reserved to figure out the missing data.

The only thing that concerns me is that there are 3 Chip select pins on this display, one for each of the 3 chips. however, from what I can see there are a number of pins still unused on the LPT port? Or are all of these only inputs? I should be more familiar with the LPT Specs... but I'm not. :(

Anyway the LCD datasheet is here: http://www.mark-products.com/pdf/g150x32/031/031%20spec.pdf

3 CS inputs can be a problem, but that is something that can be handled. There is only 4 outputs in the LPT port available besides the 8 data pins so we have to be selective with the signals to connect. We need at least the Enable line and Data/Instruction line. So that's 2 and we have 2 left for the chip selects. This we can handle with a 2 to 4 decoder IC like 74HC139 for example.

After looking into the lcd datasheet I don't think there would be big problems with it.
