I've read some threads in this forum that mention that the display should be powered on before the pc is powered on? Is that true? How is anybody handeling that? Are you using the 5v+ that on's all the time from a normal ATX power supply? Thanks

I have never powered the PC off to connect the GU128x32-311 but instead just kept in mind to first connect the power and only after that connect the LPT cable.

Yes, as in the wiring scheme.

As stated in the specsheet never to (dis)connect data or power on/off the VFD while power is applied. Some have no problems, but whenever i power it up when the PC is on it shorts out the PSU for a second. Might have to do with the PSU specs (mine's a cheapo).
No need to hook it up to +5v standby, just keep it on the +5v molex so the VFD powers up when the PC is turned on.
