I have recently had to turn down an opportunity to get a Planar EL640x200 display, purely because it had no controller, and I could not find where to get one. Does anyone know where these can be bought? I'm hoping that coorz knows, seeing as he has a 640x200. Mouser has discontinued them. Any help would be appreciated.

Mine's runs on a SED board (with a hacked up a FFC cable) from Henri indeed. I also have a board from MPI (USA), but that one isn't build too well.

You can buy SED1335's from www.futurlec.com.au. They have them listed in Components\Integrated Circuits\Special Function\Other for AU$19.28:

For anyone in the US, they also have www.futurlec.com for American customers which I imagine would stock it also. I've bought from the Australian site before and found them to be quite good, if a little slow in delivering

Yes that's just the chip. To build a complete controller you'll need more components and design and etch your own PCB.

Here's a site with a SED scheme. For Planars you can omit the DC converter ofcourse. Also you need to plan how to interface the Planar to the SED board; by means of which connectors that is.

Lets say I did manage to get hold of an EL640x200 planar display. Approx how much would it cost to get a board and hack cables to get it working with lcdinfo and/or lcdstudio?

Well it has to be the 640.200 SK version. A SED board you can ask Henri.
In my case i hacked up a FFC cable because i didn't want to hack up the SED board, you can also solder the SED>Planar connection if you're up to it.
