well i don't know what that is about. anyway i sent henri some pictures of what i get with gifanimation, LCDinfo, and ks0108test. all are promising but not correct in any form of the word. i do not know what could be the cause of the problem. the only thing that is different from any other LCD is that mine is wired by solid copper wire to a connector to a 5~6ft paralell cable. i think that this could be the problem.

LCDinfo was a bit more complicated. On the e-mail/time/date screen the LCD would go blank. On the Winamp screen the LCD would display

"LCDinfo.jpg" and on the system temp page the LCD would display a similar screen to winamp's.

I am using the latest versions of LCDinfo 0.3.1

And the most recent ks0108test program.(it was the one that included the source code and ran in a DOS terminal).

Oh and BTW the parallel port settings made a HUGE difference on ECP.

All I can think is some wiring problems that cause too much noise/interference so the signals aren't reaching the lcd correctly. You could try with shorter wiring and maybe using flatcable as that's what I've used with all my displays and lengths over 2 meters haven't been any problem.

ok i thought i should have used different wires, now i guess i do. i have a parallel cable missing one end. i think that should work just fine now i have to do the soldering and stuff. i do not know when i will have more free time so ill let you guys know when i finish the re-wireing. well i guess that my worst fear is a reality, time to find that soldering iron!!! :o thanks again

well i felt lazy and wrapped some of the power cables in tin foil and i saw a dramatic improvement. i cannot wait to completely re-wiring the thing!!!!

try picbasic.com - instead of assembler, use the BASIC language, same as BASIC stamp but with pic

Yes, you can use it as a reference but you need to make some changes:

parallel pin - lcd pin

2 - 4 DB0
3 - 5 DB1
4 - 6 DB2
5 - 7 DB3
6 - 8 DB4
7 - 9 DB5
8 - 10 DB6
9 - 11 DB7

14 - 12 CS1
16 - 13 CS2
17 - 16 D/I
1 - 17 E

The display has the GROUND and +5V pins switched compared to the schematic. Also check the places of other pins like RESET and R/W. If you follow the names of the lcd pins in the schematic instead of pin numbers everything should be fine. This Crystalfontz display also doesn't have LED backlight so you need an inverter for the EL backlight.

I didn't use the 10k pull up resistors while wiring my display. If you don't use these resistors then you won't connect the lines to Vcc either. Just straight from lcd to lpt.

Let me know if you need any further information. If you're not sure about something it's better ask first. :)
