Post subject:  Questions about Noritake GU128x32-311

I am currently working on a HTPC and there are an abundance of the noritake vfd's on ebay, cheap. My concern is the height, im working on making a slimish case and the 4.5" oc the board is going to be too tall. I am not very familiar with vfds but I am wonderig if anyone has this display the question is Can the display be partially removed from the pcb and still work, or are there connections all around.
I'm picturing like when you take apart a calculator or clock, the lcd if able to flop around at all sorts of angles because it's only connected by a ribbon at the top or bottom. Would this be possible with a Noritake GU128x32-311?
I would like to be able to run it with the controller board along the top of my case with just the display hanging down like a sideways "L"

Thanks in advance.
