Post subject:  Nokia 3310 LCD is light sensitive

I have been using the 3310 LCD's for a while, but have just noticed that when exposed to strong light, the display is affected.
As you move the display towards the light source, the display contrast gradually changes until it becomes totally black. When you move it away, the display gradually changes back. Yes, it's distance dependent too, stop half way, it's only partially dark.
I thought maybe it was a temperature problem, so I tried it with a xenon strobe. One flash, and the display totally disappears and doesn't come back until the power is turned off and on. Weird.
I've tried all the different temperature coefficients, all the biases, and various Vop's, but the problem remains.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Regards,
Jason.

Jason, the problem lies in the Chip on the glass. it's common knowlegde that integrated circuits is light sensitive. you can for exaple make an small solar cell by cutting off the top of an old TO-3 transistor, although it makes VERY little power :-)

I'm glad I'm not the only one, I thought I had a bad connection! It seems to be solved if you cover the IC at the top - possibly on both sides.
