Post subject:  what have i done wrong? 1x16 hd44780 display,

hey all
got a 1x16 HD44780 display here,
got it all wired up and everything,
to put it simply:
when using LCDSmartie, and setting the display up correctly as a 1x16 display, only the first 8 blocks of the lcd are used, the text scrolls across ONLY on the first 8 blocks on the LCD.

i changed the settings over to 2x16 and the text which is on the SECOND line of the Emulator, appears on the LAST 8 blocks on the LCD.

is it a software issue?
im pretty sure its not a wiring issue. i used crystalfontz's test program, set it to 1x16 and it appeared perfectly on the screen.

does LCDInfo support character LCD's using the HD44780 controller?
are there any versions that did?
thanx

While I would have reccommended LCDSmartie, it might be an idea to test other programs like jaLCDs.

Ok, I am assuming you are using parallel port wiring. I believe to change the columns in jaLCDs you only use the lines that you need. Also, seeing as I am not sure, I have built you a small LCD test utility compiled specifically for your HD44780 LCD. You can grab the 1x16 version here or the 2x8 version here(sorry about the slow link). Please inform me if they work; I did not have time to test them. My current theory is that you have a 2x8 LCD except the lines are horizontal to eachother.
