I have just been making a case (a dodgy one at that) for my GU256x64-372, and in the process have smashed off the little glass bubble on the side, making the unit no longer a vacuum.

I was hoping only the back light used a vacuum as this never worked anyway, but now nothing works.

Does the unit have to be in a vacuum, if so do you reckon i can fix it?

Cheers

Nick

I believe that "little glass bubble" is referred to as the exhaust tube, and yes it's needed for the display to work correctly. I don't know how or even if that can be fixed. Sorry.

if you are really good, it can be.

You would have to fuse a new evacuaction tube on it, and use a vacuum pump to pull out the air.

While the air is being pulled, have the display in test mode, it should gradually start to come to life and get brighter as the air is being pumped out.

Then you need to figure out how to seal it, and reactivate the getter.

I knew someone that broke the stem on a vacuum tube once, and just left the vacuum pump hooked to it, and it worked fine, of course, he just replaced the tube, but it was fun to experiment.
