Post subject: | Oddball Optrex LCD |
Hey ya'll... I've been working with LCDs for just under a month now. I have a powertip PC2402A (2x24) LCD rigged to my server... superglued to a 3.5 to 5.25 drive bay adapter. It looks really cool with that green backlight coming of a black case in the dark. I also have 7 other displays, some with a backlight and some without, that I'm working on hooking up. The one I'm currently working on appears to be a 240x64 graphical display module from Optrex. It's marked thus: MDK311V-0 (Bottom right) Optrex Japan (Top right) PWB633A-V0 and... stamped near the connection pins is: DMF633N-CY (not 100% sure that's a "C" but it's the closest I can get) The board has 7 "HD" chips... 6 that are the same and 1 that is something else. HD61100A (x6) HD61103A (x1) This board also has a very small IC in the top left near the connection pins labeled: C324G 9646QM13 What really struck me as odd on this display is that it only has 10 connection pins instead of the typical 14/16 (20 for some). There is a separate back light connection for it... and it works perfectally at 5V. I would appreciate any help... as google turns up next to nothing on this board. Thanks Ace Von Wildfire |

Your display seems as if it's controllerless as the HD61100 and HD61103 are the column and row drivers. A controller for these would be the HD61380. |

Well crap. Was hoping it'd be simple to rig up. Oh well... time to start looking for a controller. Thanks. Ace Von Wildfire |

Does anyone have a datasheet or, at the very least, a pinout for this LCD? I have been less than successfull with the google searches. And Optrex seems to refuse to reply to any messages I send to them. I would appreciate any help. Thanks Ace Von Wildfire |

It indeed uses the HD61830 controller, which has since been replaced by the LC7981 controller. The spec sheet for your display is here: DMF633 This is a 2 bit display, which is why you see less output pins for connections. |

Hrumph... is this display even worth hooking up, then? Ace Von Wildfire |

The chip itself won't do you any good, as you would need to build the whole controller for it. It's not that hard to do and I can sell you the LC7981 IC if you want. I've built a couple of these controllers before, but don't currently have any already built. It's definitely worth hooking up. It just handles the 8 bit input data a little differently than a 4 bit display. Still works fine though. |
