24 CHARACTER X 2 LINE LCD EL Backlite LCD:
EDT (Emerging Display Technologies) # EW24210BFW
http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/item/LCD-113/365/24_CHARACTER_X_2_LINE_LCD_.html

When I purchased this display I figured it would wire the same as the LED backlite ones, but this is not the case EL backlights require an inverter.

I have the display functioning wired to my computers LPT port, minus the backlight of coarse, using the following diagram:
http://www.markuszehnder.ch/projects/lcdplugin/images/lcd_parallel_8bit.gif

I'm trying to find the least expensive way to power the el backlite of this LCD, I plan on using it to display information of my computer and also the song playing of winamp. Which is working great but I would love to get this Displays backlight powered up and working.

NS-102 : http://inverter-lcds.shopeio.com/inventory/details.asp?id=1140&cat=Lcds&sub=Inverter

So far the least expensive el backlight inverter I have found is $3.00 but im not even sure its the correct inverter for my application. The data sheet for the NS-102 inverter shows it works for 20-30 CM^2 and if im correct my display is only 4.2 CM^2? (am I right?) Any guidance on this would be much appreciated, while im no expert with electronics ive become pretty handy with my soldering iron and im down for whatever.

I've also found these EL Inverters, but im not sure about them at all:

Well I went ahead and just purchased the NS-102 :

http://inverter-lcds.shopeio.com/inventory/details.asp?id=1140&cat=Lcds&sub=Inverter

It was only $3.00 and as far as I can tell its exactely what I need, and I was able to purchase it online. It's always best to find the best possible deal... but I dont think I was likely to find a better deal than this.

ALSO, I have all the pins wired and working with my computer, but pins 15 and 16 of the lcd header I have not wired yet, also there are two large pins on the other side of the lcd board labeled 17 and 18 that appear to wire straight into the el backlight.

How do I go about wireing this inverter to the EL backlight.... do I just wire the ground, positive in and out the inverter to the backlight or do I also need to put in some resistors? I have never wired an lcd with an el backlight before.

Thanks so much to everyone that can help :)

Jake,
Any luck using that NS-102 inverter? I have the exact same LCD and the documentation still sucks!

this diagram is based off another diagram to include how to wire in the NS-102 inverter.
