Hi all,

I'm new to the forums. I've finally decided to join. Before I try to wire this up I've got some general questions. I need a good guide on how to wire this up to the parallel port I've found these ones: http://chrix.woaf.net/hitachi/

I was wondering if there are any other?

Also, what software do I need to run this on my pc? I know there's PowerLCD and LCDStudio - but I think they where optimized for the 240x128 Display (the PowerLCD doesn't have any skins for 240x64). Is there any other software out there?

I would also like to do some programming on this, however I'm a web developer - I don't program in C/C++ but I do know the syntax.

Again, I'm very new at this so please be patient. I've tried to wire up a 2x40 Charater display a couple of weeks ago and was unsucessful so any help on the graphic LCD is appreciated.

The guide is talking about this part: 100nF condensator. Is this the same as a capacitor? If so, what is the correct conversion?

According to this http://www.dbit.com/~lansie/CUJ/Hardware.htm page LM24014 has the same pinout and negative voltage as TLX-711A for which you can find some info here: http://www.skippari.net/lcd/t6963c_schem.html

Then finally "condensator" means same as capacitor. It's "capacitor" in english but for example in finnish it's "kondensaattori".

Thank you very much for the response. I ordered some free samples for the MAX674 inverter to be used witht the backlight. I'll play around with this to see where I'll end up. The LCD came with a backlight connector with 4 pins that look like it could fit on a standard floppy connector. I believe it requires -9V - I have some cathode inverters that I could hopefully use as well.

OK, the wiring diagram here: http://www.skippari.net/lcd/t6963c_schem.html has the 4th pin going to a -8V supply. I don't know how to invert that and it's obviously important as it controls the contrast. I found another schematic similar to that one below. Here it's using a 10k potentionmeter to control the contrast. However, now it' going to a -12V supply. Can I just wire this to the +5V in the molex?

If you mean MAX764 with the inverter then those chips aren't used for backlight but rather for making the negative voltage (about -8v) from +5v.

If I remember correctly this Sharp display has EL-backlight for which you need EL inverter. CCFL inverter won't work.

You can take the +5v from the molex but -12v is only available from the ATX connector going to the motherboard. And I'm not sure if it's good idea to use that. I have never done it, instead I've used voltage inverter circuits like the MAX764. And using inverter circuit you can power it from the same +5v line than the logic part of the lcd.

Post subject:  Sharp LM24014H problems

Hi guys,

I worked for 2 weeks trying to debug mine (a Sharp LM24014H 240x64 with a T6963C driver) and with the prog I used.. nothing happens.. I checked it with a logic analyzer and all the command/status/data are OK but I still have nothing on my display. My contrast is a -5/+5 on a 10K trimpot and everything looks great..

Seems to have 2 ways to wire the LCD. I'm using the same scheme lower but some guys (like LCDProc) are wiring it like this:

PC -> LCD
1- Strobe -> 5- WR
14- Line -> 7- CE
16- Init -> 8- C/D
17- Select -> 6- RD

I think they are the only one who doing it like this.. I know that they used this code to create their own driver:

I already tried the lcdtest prog from this site and it's still not working..

You have some ideas??
