Post subject:  CC Supply or lamp Fried?

I took the cold cathode out of an old sharp lcd from a laptop and pulled the supply out of the laptop, and I can power the lamp by turning on the laptop. I was fooling around with it and i hooked up two 9-volt batteries in series, so i got about 17v and about 1 mA out of it, which almost precisely matches the voltage and current that the supply gets from the laptop. So I went to hook up the batteries to the supply, but accidentally had the polarity switched, so I had the + hooked to the supply's - and vice versa. When I realized it I reversed it and it still didnt work. Now when i hook the supply and lamp back up to the laptop and power it on, the lamp doesnt light. Did I blow the supply or lamp? Can you do that by just reversing the polarity to the supply? What a peice.
