Post subject:  Questions on Unidentified 128x64 LCD to LPT

Hello, I have got an Unidentified 128x64 LCD with HD61202/HD61203
The pinsout are
1 --> GND (Vss)
2 --> +5V (Vdd)
3 --> VO
4 --> I/D
5 --> R/W
6 to 14 --> D0 to D7
15 --> CS1
16 --> CS2
17 --> RST
18 --> VEE
19, 20 --> EMPTY (No BL)
I have got a circuit with MAX680 to output negative voltage to VEE
Is it possible to use the KS0108 schematics to connect the LCD to LPT for testing? Or its better to connect to 8051 or PIC.
Thanks for helping

Well , i think you can use them to conect it do the paralel port , since you respect the order , there should be no problem at all ,but for test it thata might be the bigger problem , since i don't realy think LCDInfo suports that controler , althout i've heard that KS0108 and HD61202 are equivelents.

Should be possible. Just follow the pin names and everything should work. There was some discussion about this in the Crystalfontz thread before I draw the schematic: http://www.skippari.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13

KS0107/KS0108 and HD61202/HD61203 should be equivalent and I believe someone has told me about success with HD61202/HD61203 and LCDInfo.

The setting in LCDInfo is called KS0108 setting but better way would be to call it KS0108/HD61203 setting.

Anyway let me know if you get it working or if there are any problems.

Post subject:  New Progress on the LCD

:?: At last I have some free time to connect the LCD. As mentioned I have used a Max680 to supply -Volt to Pin18 and it works well for the voltage supply

Problem arise after testing with the KS0108 test program. It seems the left part of 64x64 have some problems or it should be some problem with the reset. After intialize the screen is garbled. The first two lines of text is good but it shows garbled in lower lines but the last line is fine..... :?: :?:

For using the Vcc+ test program, the text screen is good with only the text and test will have a vertical line after at the center part of the screen.
For the graphics . All lines are good displayed except those lines displayed "text" and "test" is the first screen... I thought this maybe some problem with clear, initialize and timing .. am I right?... But I have no idea how to correct this problem.

Any input would be appreciated.

How about this version of the test. It should have less aggressive timings.

Post subject:  Better..but still have 2 strips across near the center LCD

The screen is like this
1st screen
----------------------------
| |
| Text | |<--- Center line with a vertical line
| |
|****************** | <--- Darkened garbled strip
| Test | |<--- Center line with a vertical line
|****************** | <--- Darkened garbled strip
| |
|___________________|
2nd Screen
----------------------------
| |
| ft4gsde45wkistrueurtr |<--- Garbled text
| |
|****************** | <--- Darkened garbled strip
| |
|****************** | <--- Darkened garbled strip
| |

The icons on the 2nd screen is correctly displayed except the dark strip across the icons
Is this possible a problem with the reset or LCD D0-D9 Pin problem?

Hmm, this sounds much like the problems discussed in this thread: http://www.skippari.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=53

What kind wiring are you using, how long, what material, etc. ?

Maybe there's something wrong with my timings as you too are having these problems. But on the other hand it's working fine for many people.

Have you tried the MarkusM's software ?

Post subject:  About LCD

I am using standard LPT Printer Cable Cutting into half length around 40cm long soldered to a 20pin connector and using USB connection as power supply and MAX680 for negative pin18 voltage supply

When using the MarkusM's software, the display is much better with a little displacement at the first letter and flickering when animation
I think that's some timing problem together with static problem after reading the post provided.

Should I connect the ground to rest of the printer pins which have not been used or any other suggestion to preven flickering and garbled display?

I don't think you should connect to ground other than the GND pins 18-25. You have a ground wire from lpt port to display GND ?

I don't know if it makes any difference but I've been using a ribbon cable with my displays and 2 meter long cable has worked fine. My current display has 1 meter long cable. I'm also feeding the voltages through this same cable.
