Post subject:  Driver for serial display

I am new to this, and need some help. I have a 106x5 dot matrix led display, which i wan't to use as a display for Winamp. Yet i have no idea how to realize this. The display is mounted on a board with a small processor, which is used to control the display. The processor has a seriel port, which i wan't to connect to my computer.

What i need to know, is how do i make winamp send song title and elapsed time to my display. I guess i need a driver and a plugin for Winamp or something????

I've got the source for the display processor, and i can modify it, so that it can be used with whatever i can make Winamp send to the serial port. I just need to know, what will be send to the serial port.

Can anyone help me please?.

If I had that kind display I would make a LCDInfo driver for it. LCDInfo already can read the data from Winamp so it would be just a matter of writing output driver that writes to the serial port and display.
What kind commands are there to control the display ? Can you tell it where to put the cursor and then the text to write or something else ?

Writing a driver for serial text display is easy as you just need to setup the correct serial port settings and then you need to know what to write to the serial port so that the display understands it.
