I recently acquired several Nortitake-Itron CU20029SCPB-T VFD displays. no, sorry, they're not graphical ![]() specs are 20x2, serial or parallel interface, about 8" across by 2" tall the problem is, they don't use the 'standard' lcd command set, that is, the commands used by all charecter lcds with the HD44780 or equiv controller. when I first saw a serial vfd for $33 I was so excitied, only to have them show up propritary. Anyone else have one of these ... is there anything I can do with it, short of sending it text with a terminal program? They might work with the CU20045SCPB-T23A driver I have made: http://www.skippari.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=696 It's only for parallel port currently. I have thought of making a serial driver too but it's still on my todo list as I don't have a serial wired display yet. |

ugh ... I didn't have the right connectors to wire the display up parallel, and there didn't seem to be any sw out there to drive it serially. so... I put together a small circuit with a PIC microcontroller, which acts as a command translator... so my VFD now emulates a matrix orbital VK202-25, without bar graph or custom font capability (yet?) |

justdiy, have you considered trying the X-Board offered by Matrix Orbital? The X-Board S-Series is Matrix Orbital's newest & compact economy serial interface module. It was designed as a daughterboard to receive serial communication and display this data on an LCD, VFD or PLED. Add it easily to any alphanumeric parallel display and you will be up and running in no time. If you have any questions let me know. |
