Post subject:  Controllerless HOSIDEN HLM8218 LCD ???

Hi, i have taken this LCD out of an xerox-machine. it's quite cool and is white/blue negative colours.

The LCD is apparently controllerless, and have only the Row/Column-drivers and a Negative Supply onboard....

I have earlier this day thrashed a Optrex DMF5003-display. it has a T6963C controller onboard.

The HOSIDEN display has Four OKI M5299A-chips and three OKI M6598-chips.

Can i connect these two displays together so the T6963C can control the OKI-chips ??? It should be possible ???

Any help is appreciated..

You have any further specs on the HLM8218 ? Depending of it's size for example the T6963C might work or not. For example 320x240 displays can't be controlled using T6963C.

Can you see it at the number of controllers ? Each M5299A can control 80 lines, and there's four of them, that makes 320 lines :-)

so we could assume that it's a 320x240 - nice hi-res display :-)

I have looked at the board it sat on, in the copier, but there's no controller there, it's driven directly by a custom RICOH-MCU....

IS it possible to connect an external controller ? i don't want to throw this LCD in the garbage can, it's pretty nice, white / blue CCFL backlighted....

Yes it should work with a controller like SED1335 or some other controller supporting the size.
MSM5299A takes 4-bit parallel input like many other displays. If you can't find the lcd pinout any other way you should be able to use the segment and common driver datasheets to figure out most of it.
