 Post subject: ATX test supply

greetings.

i'm trying to use an ATX power supply out of an old Gateway for testing purposes, just to have some voltages available.

my understanding is that - at the MB power connector - all you have to do it short the green wire (pin 14, /PS_ON) to any black wire and the supply should turn on. when i do this the supply starts up for a second, then shuts down.

any help would be appreciated.

The PSU needs a load to stay on; so connect a fan or two or anything that draws current, then try again.
