Does anyone have a working library using software SPI to interface with this controller/screen through a PIC 18f4550?

I have coded one, but it is not working. I have the screen's backlight on, but since they power up in sleep, I am not sure if my custom SPI function is doing things correctly. By stepping through with the debugger, the appropriate ports light up (I have some LEDs attached for debugging), but still nothing appears on the screen. I have never used the screen before so I dont know if it is defective or not, but I doubt it is. It was brand new and still has the plastic over the LCD panel.

My board I am using outputs a switched ground, so I am sending everything through an inverter (74LS04) and then to the screen. I looked at the max time is 15ns for the inverter. I am sending each instruction out for 1 clock cycle which is 1/12us so it should be plenty of time.

I have no idea how to test it, I just want it to turn a different colour so I know it works!

I have adapted some code I found, and I hope someone can spot something immediately wrong with it. Nothing is displaying on the screen at all, just the backlight is on, and it is blue.
