I once looked into those but I wasn't very impressed with them. They only supported the slowest transfer modes and there wasn't much material available about them. Also there weren't any flash PICs available with USB.

Yes there is. My USB LCD mentioned here uses a T6963C display. Also I should be able to make it work with KS0108 or Noritake800 just as easily. This project just has been on hold for a while as there have been so many other things to do. But it will continue because my experiences with it have been very positive.

Ooo, so LCDInfo will soon have support for USB modules then? Sounds good.

At the moment I don't have any banners but I think there's one coming in future as well as the new website.

How come you chose to use the 245BM over the 232BM? I know that the 232 converts to serial and the 245 to parallel, but surely if you used the 232 you would only use 2 pins i/o on the PIC rather than the 8+ for parallel, enabling you to have a smaller PIC?

Speed.

I chose the parallel version because it's faster than serial. I don't have 232BM chips but it might be worth trying how much the speed difference is as you would definately save some pins this way.

Heh, thanks for clearing that up for me, I never thought about speed!

I was just looking at the back of one of my MO usb units and noticed they used the 232BM, but then again they are only character units so don't need as much bandwidth.

why not , i will have too many difficulty for the usb , i don't know too much program .

assambler on intel or pic ok , electronic ok but driver , software on windows or linux , I never done .

Do you have any software examples for the National USB chip ? I would also be interested in seeing them if there are any available.
One reason I chose the FTDI chip is that there were ready made drivers and software examples available. I have never done driver programming for windows but maybe I should try that one day.


Yes, the server running this forum and most of the site (skippari.net) is in Finland - just like me. The plan is to move the site to another server (lcdinfo.com) later.

I choose the usbn9604 from national because , one side the usb plug direct connect , the other side just cpu control . ( i asked in sample from national , so free ) . and the usb driver ( electrical ) are built inside .

this chip respect the usb protocol , so any usb frame should work , may be libusb will be enought , ( may be not for me !! ) .


on my project I want program pic , and keep control of everything ( lcd usb ...) that why i choose this componant .

for the usb frame i have to make from computer , will be hard but i ant learn something ...
