Hi,

i'm trying to get my lcd working.

My LCD is a DMF 5005 like this one:

I wired it up exactly like this schematic:

The 10k Ohm Poti produces between -8 and -12 Voltage for contrast. The background changed smoothly from totally blank to totally black.

So wiring of the poti seems to be ok.

I checked every other cable 3-5 times. It's exactly the same as on the schematic.

None of my tested software shows anything on the display:
LCDinfo
PowerLCD
LCDStudio...

Please help me.

Have you noticed that in the schematic the reset pin is 9 but in the DMF5005 datasheet it is 10 ?

Everything else seems to be the same.

Any Suggestions?

Putting +5 Volt on reset pin 10 shows a thin line on my display. I found equivalent behavior of T6963C controllers in other threads.

My LCD now shows "some" lifesigns

Starting my PC lcdbackground is black.

Starting Windows lcdbackground changes to white. (I think this happens because the LPT Port is initialized)

Starting LCDtesti-> StarTLPTDriver -> shows "ok" -> InitLCD -> shows "ok" and lcdbackground changes to black. ?!?

PrintLCDText -> nothing happens

Any suggestions?

What LPT port settings have you selected in BIOS ? I think ECP/EPP is the one usually recommended but others might work also. It might be worth trying different settings if you haven't already.

my BIOS has the following options concerning lpt port.

1. EPP Version 1.9
Described above

2. EPP Version 1.7
LCD schows a thin line at Windows startup or a block or something like that. It seems that lcd gets to much ampere. The border of the dot matrix is also black at some places. Looks like the dots are floating in?!

Starting LCDtesti->initLCD shows "ok"-> and LCD becomes black. Not as black as the thin line at startup (too much ampere?) but lcd is completely black. The dots floating in at the border vanish after some seconds.

3. ECP
like EPP Version 1.7

4. Bi-Dir (ectional?)
like EPP Version 1.7

5. Normal
Windows startup like EPP V.1.7 BUT pressing initLCD in LCDtesti makes CPU usage become 100% and LCDTesi hangs?!

Still no text on my LCD

I'm helpless.

I checked voltage on every pin after initLCD.

Maybe results can help you to resolve the problem:

1: 1.9 V

11: 1.9 V

Here is a picture of my LCD not initialized. You see one thin line falling at the border of the dotmatrix where no line should be.

The lcdtest I made for T6963C only work with displays that have the RD WR CD CE pins connected like in this one: http://www.skippari.net/lcd/t6963c_schem.html

I'll have a look into those voltages later, need to go now...

Been very, very busy during the last week. But things should be getting back to normal after tonight.


This is because the program tries to read the busy flag from the lcd and this only works in bi-directional modes.


How are you measuring these ? They should be 0V. And these should be the GND pins where everything else should be measured against.

3: 5 V OK
4: -8.7 V Seems OK
5: 4.2 V Probably OK
6: 0 V Probably OK
7: 0 V Probably OK
8: 1.4 V Probably OK
9: 0 V Not connected so OK
10: 5 V Reset OK
11: 1.9 V Data pins ok
12: 5 V Data pins ok
13: 1.9 V Data pins ok
14: 2.5 V Data pins ok
15: 1.5 V Data pins ok
16: 1.1 V Data pins ok
17: 1.9 V Data pins ok
18: 1.1 V Data pins ok
19: 0 V FONT SELECT 0V=GND=8x8 font, most programs expect 6x8 font but this shouldn't preven't you from seeing anything
20: 0 V Not connected so OK


This looks kinda strange. I've never seen this with my displays.


This one already looks much better and seems to have some contrast althought the line is still seen.
