Hi there,

I'm using LCDInfo since this weekend and already got some nice screens running :-)

Unfortunately I'm running in a problem with user rights on Windows XP SP2.

Right after booting Windows, LCDInfo won't work if logged on as user. I have to log of, login as administrator, start LCDInfo and then logoff again.

After that, LCDInfo will work with user rights ...

What can I do? I think that some sort of driver / device has to be initialized as administrator. But which?

Anybody an idea?

cu

Sascha

Try running LCDinfo with different secuity (administrator) credentials. Use the "RUN AS" option.

How do I manage this when auto-starting "LCD-Info" when booting windows?

Sascha

EDIT: Doesn't work with "Run as" ...

Any Ideas?

The problem must be the WinIO driver which can't load the kernel mode driver part in user mode.

You can try running this configuration program from old LCDInfo and then from the IO driver tab try the "Install driver" option with administrator rights.
http://www.skippari.net/lcd/alpha/install_for_winio.rar

As it's made with C++ Builder you might need this: http://www.lcdinfo.com/lcd/files/Vcl50.zip

Let us know how it goes.

No, didn't work :-(

"Error installing drivers"

I also tried copying the winlo files to the system32 directory and giving them full rights ... didn't work either :-(

Any other idea?

Nothing do to with paranoia ... ever worked on a unix system? You NEVER work with root permissions.

So, still the open question: Any idea how lcdinfo and / or winlo has to be configured that it works with user rights :?:

I need to research this. I have known of this problem (but haven't really remembered it until you asked) and as you might have guessed from the old LCDInfo setup I gave you I tried to solve it in past. But for some reason installing the drivers doesn't work exactly as expected.

But I'll see what I could do.

I don't know if this will help, but Windows XP has a "Set Program Access and Defaults" button in the add/remove programs window. Have a look in there to see if anything would fix or hinder LCDinfo. I'll have a look soon, but I'm currently busy with something else for a few days.

Like I said.. I don't know just yet, it will take me a few days, but would probably be better for you to take a peek in there yourself. Certainly quicker...

I'm not sure if this might be of any help; http://www.internals.com

Version 2.0 provides faster I/O port access, better memory mapping support and can be used from non-administrative accounts under Windows NT/2000 and XP
