my 5 year old laptop has died and I was considering putting the beautiful LCD to use, but I have no idea where to start. I have much experience with electronics but I can't seem to find the pinout for my model. I've emailed sony about it, but am doubtful at the moment. the model number is as follows; A8045754A

thanks for any information anyone can provide.


p.s. it's a samsung display, their site is less than helpful, and I've not recieved a reply from them for quite some months.

As far as I can make out, it's a 3.3 volt, LVDS panel.

I have a good collection of LCD pinouts and datasheets, but I don't have this one. Maybe the above info will help you find it. Unfortunately, LCD manufacturers who sell to other manufacturers rarely like to give out specs - they are generally considered confidential.

Try looking at these two - they are not for your model, but often they use the same pinouts. If they look similar, try tracing the power and ground connections on the LCD or laptop board to see if they match. If so, its a fair bet...

Maybe try to identify the video controller on the laptop board, get its datasheet (probably easier than the LCD one) and trace out the connections? There aren't that many for an LVDS panel.

That's what I would do, anyway. I've done it on a few panels with ultimate success.

For a LVDS panel, you'll have to get a VGA->LVDS converter.. which will cost more than a brand new 15" LCD monitor.

Not if you connect it to a suitable LVDS-enabled board, like many of the small form factor boards out now. Makes a *very* nice embedded system.

Detailed specs on LCD are not available. Specs may possibly be found by searching the internet using the model number off the back of the LCD.

No, you need a controller which will output the "correct" signals with correct timing to the panel.

I don't know the pinout nor the type of controller I need for the panel.

my trial-and-error approach was going to be a blind attempt at determining this.

and there's a chip under a flaxable PCB that's taped pretty firmly to the back of the LCD - I've not succeeded in pulling it back to read what's on the chip, but what I do know is that it's square with hookups on all sides.
