Hi

I bought this. How do I wire it up to LPT? I read something about needing an inverter. Whats that, and where do I buy it (or make it)?

Thanks in advance.

Best Regards
Razzia

You could look at this schematic for guidance:

Look at the pin names and verify against your displays datasheet. They might be in different order.
Inverter is used for powering CCFL or EL backlights. But your display has a LED backlight so you don't need inverter. Only a suitable resistor for the LEDs.

What isn't clear from a quick glance at the datasheet of your display is if your display provides the negative voltage from the VEE pin or if it needs to be supplied externally. The schematic above shows a display that has the negative voltage generator on the display PCB and supplies this voltage from the VEE pin. But I think your display would need this voltage to be supplied externally.

I think your right. I have checked my wiring and it looks right. How do I get negative voltage?

So anyone got that display to work ? I made a stripboard to try to get it working, with an atmega168
I assumed it didn't need the negative voltage, we'll see if it works !

I can confirm that the display works, and works in fact rather well -- it seems a lot faster than other implementations of KS0108 for example. I'm driving it with an atmega168 running at 8Mhz, I /never/ see the busy flag on the display, I can read and write at full speed without even a nop between the toggles of the E line !

I use a 7.5Ohm resistor on the LCD+ line and it gives me pretty good backlight, and a 2K2 trim pot for the contrast -- the contrast voltage is normalized to -5V already. 10K was way too much.
