Ok i have now caught the bug....

My 4x20 display is no longer sufficient so i would like to go bigger :)
i remembered i had an old knackered Acer Travelmate 510 in the attic so o ripped it apart and found it had an....

Hitachi TX31D27VC1CBB display, i also have the inverter too,

all i need to know really is if it is possible to rig this to my pc so if anyone can either offer help or has a data sheet for this display, i see from a google search its quite a popular display so im hoping it'll be possible to get this baby working :)

If it's VGA size (640x480) then forget about hooking that up to LPT and using it as you did with 4x20 character.
It can be used as normal display but needs a VGA controller or you can try the VESA feature connector if you're lucky.

:) fogive me for being a noob but yeah it's 640x480

I do understand that this can't be hooked up via the LPT but its hooking it to like you say a VGA controller or VESA feature connector (<-- wa ?? i assume this is my standard VGA socket ??)

I need all the help i can get really as i am a complete n00bin to LCD's but after seeing this...

http://lcdgallery.net/?f=view&lcdid=267

I really wanted something like it :)

Any kind of data sheet would be appreciated

Could you elaborate more on the VGA controller and VESA feature connector (tut tut ... n00bs ;) )
Am i right in thinking my ATI 9600 aint gonna have a VESA connector, although i do have another older pci gfx card with one on i think, would I be able to control BOTH displays independantly ???
Now all i need to know is what the outputs from this scrren are...

the connector has 30 pins as far as i can see with 10 of those going to the inverter....

The one in the mod is a 15" TFT monitor built into the side panel.
What you first need is the datasheet of your display, that way you can determine if it can be connected to the VFC connector, if yes then undeed best way is to use an old PCI VGA card.
If no then most likely it's not worth the hassle and money to find a suitable VGA controller board.

i don't know if anyone cares anymore, but this datasheet might be usefull. it is not the exact lcd, but it seems similar and appears to have the same 41pin pinout. it is a 'D24' instead of a 'D27'

hope this is useful to someone
