I have an old ipaq 3950 that i messed up by trying to flash a linux boot rom to and now will not boot at all....

Would it be possible to hook this up as a display and also keep the touchscreen facility also.

while i understand that this may need some extra software/hardware to actually implement i would be interested to see if it was possible...

Yes ofcourse, find the datasheet and you can build the proper LCD controller for it. For the touchscreen you can find a suitable controller once you know it's specs.

If you open the unit you might find some type markings from the lcd that might lead to more information about the lcd used.

I wouldn't use that ipaq for spare parts just yet... even an ipaq with a corrupt bootloader can be un-bricked. Compaq will do it (for a fee) but it's cheaper than a new pda. You could even do it yourself if you fit a JTAG connector to it.

That's a good suggestion. Flashing a new firmware through JTAG should be easier than doing the hardware that would allow using the display othewise.
