Connecting my 12864 to the parallel port

Iv'e got a display out of a Fiery XJ-W controller. I think that this display is a 12864 display. This is the display.

I've contacted the producer of the display and he send me the diagram of this display.

In an other topic in this forum i've found a drawing made by Henri on how to wire a display up.

Can I use this drawing to connect my display to the parallel port?

My schematic is for a display that has internal negative voltage regulator and I'm not sure if your display has one. You can at least connect the pins that go to parallel port using the pin names in my schematic.

That looks very much like samtech's display.

But the connection diagram you posted doesn't have anything mentioned about the -18v voltage that is connected in samtech's display. So I'm not 100% sure they are the same display.

I can't find anything in the display's tech. docs regarding -18V. I've oploaded the complete tech. docs in the form I've received them from the company that made the display. It's a Word97 doc.

Hope you can do something with it.

Your LCD is equal to the ones i have of that model , especialy one i got last week , since all the others i have don't have the DC-DC converter (the extra IC is in fact a DC-DC converter)
The pin's 18 must be the Vout , 19 and 20 are for conecting the Led backlight , not N/C as in the diagram you posted.

passsing that all the conscetion seam to be identical.

One other thin if possible sendme the zip file with your doc's for my mail, since i coud'nt get a reply form Datainternational regarding that LCD , and i jus got licos always say tha i have to visit you page

If your display outputs the negative voltage from pin 18 you should be able to connect the contrast like in my crystalfontz schematic.

Can you measure if the pin 18 outputs the negative voltage ? If it does I think there is enough information to make the wiring.

To do that, is it enough to connect pin 1 and pin 2 to the +5V and GND? And then messure the voltage between pin 18 and pin 2? Or do I need to connect more pins to the power?

Connecting GND and +5v should be enough. And then measure the voltage between pin 18 and GND.

Oke, I'll try that tonight. The LCD is @ home and I'm at work, otherwise I could test it here. Better yet, I'll take it to work tomorrow. We've got better PCU's here and better measuring equipment.

Oke, I've connected Pin1 to GND and Pin2 to +5V. The output between Pin18 and GND is -10V.

Here's something. I think you can connect the contrast (pin3, pin18, gnd, variable resistor) like in the other schematic.

Thanks, I'm feeling a little better, but not good enough. As soon as I hooked up the display to the parallel port, I'll let you know the results.
