Hi. I just started using LCDInfo about a week ago and I like it alot (then again, it's the only LCD program that supports my VFD-display  )

Anyway, I was wondering if there's any way I can read a line from a textfile?
I saw a thread where you said it would be easy to implement, but this was in february.. It's now July and I'm unsure if it has been implemented or not yet.

Thanks.

Hey Rex, good to see you. I had a feeling you'd pop up here sometime
You can also try the alpha release of LiQuiD, it supports your VFD too.

Haha ;)
I tried Liquid, but I couldn't get it to work. Either way I'm interested in getting more info than just which MP3 I'm playing and such, which is why I'm going for LCDInfo.

I don't know C/C++, so I can't write my own plugins, but if I could read from a text file, it would help alot. :)

Unfortunately it's not implemented yet
The difficulty of implementing the text file reading feature hasn't changed at all and I have now loaded the LCDInfo project in front of me and I'll see if I could have better news for you about this feature later this weekend...

Nothing finished to offer just now but I can tell you that I started working with LCDInfo again last weekend. So there is some hope

It's been a while since this was posted, and as the project has gone open source, has anyone got the time to try and create a read from textfile plugin?
It would be nice if it could read line X from a textfile, and possibly even count the lines in the textfile and read the Xth line from the bottom. This could easily be used as an IRC plugin, if you use logging.

Thanks for your help :)

Great program, the only one that works with my Noritake 800.

The only thing needed to make my life complete is the text file function...

Is this still in progress?

I too think this plugin would be an extremely useful addition to LCDinfo. But yet again, I don't have enough of a programming background to attempt this.

If anyone willing to put in some time helping me however, I'm more than willing to learn. While I have a very limited understanding of programming, it might just be enough for someone to give me basic tuition on programming plugins specifically for LCDinfo. Although I suspect, that whoever would be willing to take the time to explain it all to me, could just as easily knock out 5 or 6 plugins in the time it'll take to explain it to me.

Anyway.. just think of all the possibilities of a nicely implemented text-reader plugin.... Log file monitoring, Data updates from external programs, put some parsing stuff in there like an INI file with some rules, and you could use it to extract all sorts of info... it would make a fantastic plugin. :)

Have fun thinking about it....
