The display is a CrystalFontz CFAG12864B (if i recall correctly), and yes, the balls are just filled circles. I made a function to draw clipped, optionally filled, circles that supports PixelStyles.
It's a very basic 3d engine that supports triangles, lines and circles and Z-sorting, but it's still quite buggy (for example, triangles that need to be clipped to fit on screen are sometimes only drawn partially etc)
