Other than back light, what cna make LCD display looks brighter?

I probably don't fully understand what you're after here but if the lcd is reflective model light from outside light source is reflected back. Also the lcd materials affect how "bright" the display is.

But usually if there's a backlight then brighter the backlight, brighter the display looks like.

you can try a el-backlight

or maybe use brighter leds

You might want to be more specific. Are you asking this in general or do you have some specific situation where you would need a display to be brighter ?

I have a similar question:

Which display has (in general) more contrast in normal daylight and indoor lighting. The transflective or the reflective display?
Can I use the transflective display in "reflective mode" by switching off the backlight? Will the contrast of the display be similar to that of a reflective display? Or will I loose contrast?

It seems to be quite difficult to find a reflective display for my requirements.

Therefore I am thinking about useing a transflective display. What are the disadvantages? Higher current consumption?
